Notes and photos from nearly two weeks on the road.
Day two took us to Boysen State Park through Custer State Park. The morning was cold but the ride was scenic. There was snow all over Custer and even when Wyoming flattened out, there were ridges and rolling hills in the distance. It was another long drive.
8.15a leave badlands in search of coffee.
waved to Alexis and her brother, who are on their way NW also, by way of Yellowstone and Tetons.
9.30a stop for bagels, then coffee @ an Espresso bar with an ADORABLE barista. cutting S on 79 instead of going through Rapid City.
Hello Custer State Park.

12p Enter Wyoming.
Alexis and her brother are from Massachusetts. I recommend Custer State Park. The forest is gorgeous and there are quite a few different cabins and lodging options. Snowshoeing in the winter would likely be sweet.
12.30p stop @ a passive solar rest area. cool concept. wish there were more of them
This American Life:
“that’s why I find racism so curious. There are so many reasons to dislike people and you go with color?”
3.30p stop to steal Comfort Inn wifi in Casper, WY
6.30p arrive @ Boysen State Park
take series of mediocre snaps
7.00p After some primo sunset pics, we’re LITERALLY blown out of our campground and off to other sites on the opposite side of the reservoir.
Boysen Reservoir is pretty impressive, the towns around it aren’t and the wind across it was astounding. It caught our tarp like a sail and blew our fire out immediately.
After a few turn-arounds and some help from some locals, we were finally camped on the west side of the reservoir where the wind is only a small issue. Unfortunately, we’re inundated w/ creepy crawly things. like arachnophobia but w/out electricity. or Jeff Daniels.
always nice to see stars again
It took some time to find the road that led to campgrounds on the west side of the reservoir (dark, poorly marked). After a few wrong turns, we stopped into a bar and were handed brochures and advice from some locals.
There aren’t any metro areas within a hundred miles of Boysen so the stars were insane. Stunning, really.
