Notes and photos from nearly two weeks on the road.
Technically, day twelve carries over into day thirteen. Considering Fish and I slept in shifts and drove the full twenty-seven hours, I’m counting it as one day. (You can be more precise when you make your own site.)
9.15a awake. taking showers, packing bags, saying goodbyes and out of here.
LONG drive ahead. not looking forward to it, but want to be back ASAP.
10.20a officially on the road.

stop @ Tully’s – NOW officially on the road. 10.35a

12.15 stop in Ellenburg for gas and lunch
Grab some lunch in George, WA
7.15 end of my first shift. stop for gas in St. Regis, MT
We failed at lunch in Ellenburg so we had to stop again soon after. I didn’t sleep much during Fish’s first shift so the end of mine was kind of rough. Quite scenic through western Montana though.
10.50p stop in BIG TIMBER. My turn. refueled to 15.8 gallons. cut that a bit close on a 16 gall tank.
12.15p on 94. last turn until MSP.
1.20p freak snowstorm. scared, pardon the French, shitless. intermittent rain and a Starbuck’s double shot keep me wide awake.
3.36a Stop for gas in Glendive. no 24hr shop. weird.
4a quick stop in Beach for coffee. Happy to see NoDak. well, sort of.
8.45a Jamestown ND. not excited for my go @ the drive but slept well.
1p end of shift in Monticello. Crossed into MN about 10.15a. Cloudy skies and road construction.
There was light rain, we gained a little altitude and BOOM: snowstorm. There was almost an inch of accumulation at the side of the road. I was not prepared. I dropped to 45mph and eased my way through about twenty minutes of that mess with white knuckles.
I was amazed at how many exits didn’t have services. Then in Glendive none of the stores were open, only pay-at-pump for gas. I had almost four hours rest during Fish’s second shift.
2p home sweet apartment. so tired.
hair status: nauseating. grotesque. homeless-16yr old-esque.
888 = total photos before revision
217350mi, 4700 total.
GAS: about $300
TOTAL: under $700
I have issues with hair. Not cutting it for thirteen days was harrowing but that probably makes no sense. I’m also a bit of a shutterbug, as they say. Only about two hundred were worthy of sharing.
The cost of the trip came to about my estimates but gas was a smaller portion than I expected. We averaged about three hundred and sixty miles each day, or roughly the drive from Minneapolis to Milwaukee.
